Peterborough Animal Care Centre

A new 22,000 ft² (2,050 m²) joint facility for the Peterborough Humane Society (PHS) and the Ontario Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (OSPCA). Consisting of a spade/neuter clinic and an animal rehabilitation and adoption facility.

The mechanical design features an air-cooled VRF system, variable air volume (VAV) Air Handling Unit (AHU), high efficiency boiler plant, and hydronic heat.

Requirements for high levels of exhaust due to the presence of contaminants in animal enclosures resulted in high levels of fresh air be delivered back into the building. A custom air handling system with energy recovery, that completely prevents cross-contamination between the exhaust and fresh air, will allow for reduction in the operating cost of the facility when compared to conventional AHUs.
